Epson printheads

Epson Printhead Options: DX7, DX10, I1600, I3200

All four series print with Epson printheads. Nozzle count sets speed, printhead life, price and how well a head handles clogging.

  • I1600 1600 nozzles
    1600
  • DX7 1440 nozzles
    1440
  • DX10 / TX800 1080 nozzles
    1080

From I1600 to DX7 to DX10: fewer nozzles mean slower printing, a shorter printhead life, a lower printhead price and less resistance to clogging and cleaning.

  • I1600: larger nozzles fire steadily and are less likely to drop ink, so prints come out without broken lines or banding.
  • I3200: the same 720 × 1200 default resolution as the I1600.
  • Your pick: recommended with the machine quote, from your wall sizes and the number of jobs you expect.

Your Price per Square Metre and Wall Sizes Set Your Payback Area

Send the price you can charge per m² and the wall sizes you print most. They become a machine recommendation and a quotation you can test against your own market, in the sum below.

Ink cost

$0.40
  • About 2 ml of ink per m² in standard mode with CMYK ink.
  • White ink and full-coverage images raise it: a dark wall with a white underbase costs more per m² than a light wall.

Print time

8 m²/h Draft · Standard
  • 5 m²/h in High resolution mode.
  • Wall area ÷ mode speed = printing hours for the job. Add your setup time on site.

Selling price

$50–350 / m²
  • Typical market quotes for wall printing projects.
  • Your price depends on region, wall size, artwork and client type, so use the price you can actually charge where you work.

Wall Printing Machine Results on Eight Surfaces

One real print per material, made with the machines on this page. Results depend on the surface and its preparation, so a sample test is recommended on any material you have not printed before.

  • Brick wall

The ultrasonic sensors follow the joints between bricks, so the image runs across the mortar lines.
  • Plain grey wall

Painted walls print directly. A darker grey takes the CMYK + W setup, with white printed under the colour.
  • Wood board

The image is printed straight onto the board, and on bare wood the grain shows around it.
  • Acrylic board

A smooth surface, so the matching coating goes on first and the print follows.
  • Metal

Iron sheet and roller shutters take the coating first. On corrugated metal the sensors follow the profile.
  • Glass

The coating is wiped on, then the LED UV lamp cures the ink as the printhead passes.
  • Canvas

The image goes straight onto the canvas surface for artwork panels.
  • Uneven surface

Shown on a ribbed shutter. Textured plaster and relief walls print the same way; the sensors are explained below.

Built for the hard walls

Four MAXWAVE Design Details That Handle Difficult Walls

Uneven walls, dark walls, glass and walls handed over the same day test any wall printer. MAXWAVE answers each one with a specific part of the machine or a matched material.

  • The wall
    01 · Uneven walls

Two ultrasonic sensors with surface following

The sensors on the printhead measure the distance to the wall and move the printhead in and out as it travels. They follow up to 1.5 cm of relief, such as brick joints, textured plaster and ribbed shutters, with no hand adjustment.
  • The wall
    02 · Dark walls

A white underbase from CMYK + W, with white ink stirring

The machine prints a white layer first and the colour image on top, so colours hold on a dark or coloured wall. A stirring system keeps the white ink mixed in the line, so it does not settle between jobs.
  • The wall
03 · Glass and glazed tile

A matched coating, supplied with your consumables

Apply the coating to the smooth surface, then print. Without it the print can come off over time. The ink and the coating come from the same chain.
  • The wall
    04 · Same-day handover

An LED UV lamp that travels with the printhead

The lamp cures each pass as it is printed, so the wall is dry when the print ends. A knob behind the lamp sets its brightness, and the wall gets a water- and UV-resistant finish.
